My uncle shot a 77/22 for years he loves it,it was a fine rifle. I shot Remington’s,marlin, savage Ruger Winchester, I’ve shot and had several. I loved 2 marlins a lever gun and a 25mn bolt gun.i love my Winchester single shot, All that being said for about 10 years I’ve packed a cz and love it shoot good shoots hard handles good great craftsmanship right outta the box the iron sights are set. I’ve got a 452 military trainer dad has a 455 I believe, mine is a barebones rifle but dads has a fully adjustable trigger they have several models to choose from they ain’t cheap but they are heirloom quality for sure.
My uncle loved his 77 we use to trade rifles on hunts I’d take he’s he’d take mine and we would split up and hunt he actually told me he thought my cz was the better gun if you knew how crazy he was about that Ruger you’d know what that really meant.
Colt
I’ve killed several ground hog at around 100 yards with 22.when rib thumped with my marlins they would run about 10 or 15 yards with when I bought my cz they would roll over its a hard shooting 22 that’s all with cci mini mags.
Colt
Colt I really appreciate your reply
I couldn’t even begin to think how many critters
I’ve taken with my 77/22
I’ll do my best to try and find a CZ
I like the idea of and adjustable trigger
Now if they just have them in stock
Seeing .22 Ammo now
ThumbCatcher, I’m no expert, but if it doesn’t bother you to pay for quality on a newer rifle, then I second what Colt says! The cz’s are deadly accurate, and top notch! Many of the older Marlins are good, and if you check at pawn shops, and gun stores, you may luck up on one at a decent price. Many of the older rifles were well made, and you would probably be alright with any of the major brands, as long as they appear well taken care of. When I was a kid, I had a winchester , single shot, .22 . I believe it was a model 47 if memory serves. It had an automatic safety, so that every time the bolt was opened, it went to safe. That was a great feature for a kid to have. Good luck on finding the right .22 for your Son!
Use to be they was kinda hard to find when I bought mine the only place that had um was antique and modern in Lexington. Know I see them in allot of places even small shops good place in mt sterling carries them and buds gun shop does too. They’ve kinda became a brand they have to have seems like.
Oh and dad’s is a 457 trainer the 455 don’t have the adjustable trigger. The trainers are built for open sight or scope shoot they have a euro style hog back stock and some of the straight combed guns are not real comfortable to shoot open sights my 22 hornet is a 455 American and it’s made for a scope.
Hope this helps.
Colt
CZ quit producing some of their .22’s I think. I’d love to have one in .22 Hornet.
I miss spoke my hornet is a 427 American it has a set trigger nice little rifle.
Colt
Couple more pics of my cz’s
I have a Ruger model 8348 that I am well satisfied with. Adjustable trigger. Hits where I hold it.
I’m gonna pass this along to my son
Tuff decision I tried looking at a couple places on line
But out of stock
I’d say it will be between the These two riffles
Thanks for the imput

In current rifles you have the Savages and Ruger American Series they are solid accurate rifles but are the lower cost end so while they are serviceable accurate rifles they are utilitarian in nature. Moving up the line you have the CZ’s the Tikkas, Bergaras, Chritensen Arms, and Brownings (the Brownings are not as accurate as the others but they are “pretty rifles”. Finally at the top of the stack are the Anschutz, Coopers and the true custom guns.
I have a CZ 452 sporter and absolutely love it, the trigger is great, it is a walnut stocked blued rifle that shoots tiny little groups and looks good doing it. I had a Savage MK II that also shot nice groups but just wasn’t as cosmetically appealing. I have shot the Bergaras, Christensen Arms but I prefer my CZ to them not that they arent excellent rifles, it is just personal preference. The highest level is out of my price range so I can’t offer any real opinion on them.
I have a couple old Remington bolt actions that I have had for a very long time. The have suited my purposes well.I also own several semi auto’s,pumps and lever actions for what its worth. They seem to be fairly accurate as well
Thanks for the input
He is trying to find a CZ
