Another if you could only have one question

Okay, we have established that most guys reach for a .30-30, Marlin for deer hunting, .12 ga. for early squirrel season, and a scoped up CZ .22 for later in the season. A case pocket knife to skin them with, and a Zebco 33 with a mep’s spinner ,or rooster tail lure for most casual fishing. and if I remember right, It was a toss up on traps, with everything from a #2 Bridger, a #11 DLS, or a MB 550 listed as the trap of choice if you could only have one. (So here’s another one for you. ) If it is the day after the World suffers a Major Disaster, and all power, water distribution stations, Food supply , etc. comes to a halt for 60 days; what is your Trap, and or lure of choice to keep you, and your Family fed for the next 2 months? Laws don’t apply in this scenario, so Curious as to what everyone thinks. For me, I guess I would look pretty hard at 160 Body grip set for critters the size of coons, on down to squirrels. lure/bait would be anise oil, and parts of innards from previous catches. What would work best in your mind?

Most things to eat a 1.5 coil would hold. I’d have to opt for castor. I’ve thought if I were on one of those survival shows a 1.5 coil would be my trap. I’ve held several front foot beaver in 1.5’s.

If one means one type then without a doubt snares, if only one means a single individual trap, a fully modified Bridger # 2 closed jaw. Not because it is my favorite trap, in fact it is one of my least favorite but it is bomb proof and will hold anything up to a beaver. In a emergency situation opossum, raccoon and beaver are your best return on investment due to the fat content. My lure would be a castor based lure.

Would probably have to go with the snare to catch raccoons beavers and bobcats all 3 are very good to eat and castor would be lure choice

Interesting choices, and thought processes! Looks to me like we all stand a better chance at making it through a real tough spell if it comes down to having to feed ourselves; than someone who’s never done anything except go to Kroger’s!

Steve, I’m just guessing that based on your timeframe of 60 days for the crisis that most of us have more than enough food in the house to cover that without having to worry about it.

K91773, Good Point! Keeping your stuff defended for a couple of months probably wouldn’t allow much time for trapping anyways! That makes me rethink my choice of traps, and maybe consider putting in barbed wire n pungi pits around the perimeter! … Hopefully, we will never have to face a long term crisis, as I for one have gotten pretty used to AC, Buffet bars, and soft toilet paper ! As a matter of fact, a couple of rolls of T.P. set outside the wire now and then might make a really good bait/lure to keep the desperate hoards distracted, and away from your main stash! …LOL!

My choice would be a #3 jump trap, my lure would be bacon grease.

A 330 coniber on my refrigerator!:joy: and my old Henry 30-30 by my bed!!! Most would be hurting in 60 days without McDonalds!

LOL! I know how my luck would go ; I would be caught in the 330 stumbling in the kitchen around midnight for cold water, or a snack! Then I would have to holler for help to get out of it, and sensing my moment of weakness, the outlaws would come right in and walk off with my rifle!

I know you ask for trap you’d use but
My thoughts the most valuable thing I own is my .22 Riffle to put food on the table

I’ve got a bucket of bullets just for the occasion
Trap be a 220
No bullet needed and take a lot of different species
From
Squirrels on up
Let’s pray it never gets to that
But as long as there meat out there I’d be good

Neighbors down the road not so much
He has told me many times
If it doesn’t come out of a package or can he Won’t eat it

Yeah , if it ever gets Bad, I bet the neighbors will be standing at the door with a plate in their hands, waiting for you to show up with dinner every time they hear that .22 fire! A 220 B.G. is a good all around game/fur/fish/turtle getter too! I bet you could even set it to catch a prowler/thief by the foot with a little experimenting!
