Anyone on here every use beaver floats?
Yes I’ve used them and no I’ve not caught any with um.
I will give you a tip though if you use dead dry red cedar poles it will flatten the experimentation. They float really good and are as light as you can make them.
Mine was made in a v with a 330 in the mouth. They float and all but I ain’t caught a beaver in one.
The next time I try I’m gonna use a torpedo type snare rig look them up on minktrapping.com I thank they would work good.

I think floats work a lot better in some parts of the country than here. I can’t catch a rat on a float. I’ve seen beaver caught on them more than rats. I think they’d both work best in the spring.
Well actually know that you mention it I have caught them as a non target on mink and rat floats in nber 2 square jaws.

I will be trapping on a river and thought they might be the answer.Never had much luck with muskrat floats although I have caught a few. Looked like it worked good on utube for beaver but it also looks good on utube for rats. I think maybe in other parts of the country. I might try a couple just for fun.
I used to use them quite a bit, but they took up a lot of space in the boat. They are worth it though if water levels fluctuate a lot and you don’t have access to the banks. Mine were 2x4’s with foam in between.
Larry, give Leon a call. He’s caught quite a few beaver on floats.
I catch a little on mine but there just barely worth it. Just when I thank I’ve got it fingered out they go dead. Leons style might be better cause the critters swim all the way in.
I mostly build them for mink and rats and mostly snag coon and beaver on them. I have caught a few otter doing it the way Leon does. But have caught nothing else using that style.

I may try to build those torpedo snare floats but I don’t have the plans. Has anyone every used those?
I have not used them but hear is how Jeff does it I copied it from mink trapping.com
I’ve caught them off floating logs with snares and also in current off trees and tree limbs but never used his torpedo I’m sure they would work. It’s the same principle
