Been doing a little trapping for the county road department and caught two beaver this past week the had very short hair between their shoulder blades almost like a coyote rub. Upon further inspection, the hair had tons of what I think was lice larva attached. Seen lots of bugs and fleas before but not necessarily lice. Is that what this is??

Thought it was sand at first but it was only between the shoulders, short hair and it wouldn’t wash out.
I’ve looked at several beaver and never seen that. Could it be a larval stage of those beetles we see in the winter?
Steve, that was gonna be my guess too. I would assume that the beaver is the host for the full life cycle lf those beetles.
That’s a spot on the beaver they couldn’t reach to scratch off themselves.
Not sure what that is; but I’m itching now just from looking at it!
