Been picking up a few old traps

Newhouse #91 double jaw 1925-1937

Newhouse #4. Not original chain but still pretty cool

Newhouse #81 web jaw 1905-1925

Triumph Easy Set #3. This design ultimately was the demise of the Triumph company. It didn’t hold an animal well and gave Triumph a bad name and sales plummeted. Company closed in 1934.

No. 1 Kompakt. This trap was manufactured by Oneida Community to be marketed and sold by Sears and Roebuck. The only trap made by Oneida that didn’t bear its name I believe.

No1 Triumph Easy Set

No1 1/2 Newhouse

No 2 Newhouse

Triumph 215X Triple Clutch. The Triple Clutch jaw design was marketed as “The Trap That Holds”

Triumph #215X Triple Clutch High Grip. This pan was manufactured with bait holes which they stopped producing in 1916

Newhouse trap, not sure of the size since the pan is not legible. It does have hand forged springs and jaws which likely makes it extremely old I would suppose.

All for now. Maybe more when I get off the road and get a few cleaned up. If you have any, please post some pictures. I love looking at the old traps.

I’ve got a few but you have some really great ones

A nice collection of some old traps. How do you go about finding old traps

Never knew how they came up with the name Easy Set. Hardest foothold try to set. The levers don’t lock up on them, too low. I have a few too. Holding history. I have a couple dozen Diamond Double Jaws that are a hundred years old that are just users. I like to use them a little each season.

Many of mine are users too but I don’t use them. Just cool to have and hang up somewhere. They will be all auctioned off one day by somebody who does not appreciate them I’m sure. As far as how I find them, I just keep an eye on FB Marketplace, auctions and junk stores. I got the #3 Easy Set on trade for an otter. I fleshed a mountain lion and a black bear for a guy and he is paying me in old traps. Got one of the Newhouse 91’s and Triple Clutch out of that deal so far, he says there are more coming but he has been out of town working for a few weeks. Headed out to East TN to work today, already been scouring the web for local antique stores where I’m going

Pretty cool weez nice traps. Always wondered about the easy sets didn’t look like they would hold worth a hoot!
Colt

eBay has them but they usually go a little higher than I’d pay and then you have shipping. Sometimes the trap shed on Trapperman has a few odd ones.

I was in California a couple weeks ago and we went to several antique/junk stores. I found several old traps and every one of them was missing the pan. I didn’t ask but figured it’s illegal to possess a working foothold??

This one isn’t “vintage” actually….BUT, it was made and given to me by one of UTK’s finest!
