When I was a kid I stretched everything on home made wooden boards and they’d stick very tight sometimes. I didn’t even know the concept of a belly wedge. Used to bang them on the floor nose down to loosen them.

Yes me too, rats and mink on a rasped down 1x pine board are pretty hard to get loose. My stretchers was so crood I use them as fleshing boards know.
I red how to do that in me of hawbakers books.

Or leave em on too long and have to wrap a wet burlap sac around it
Been there on both accounts! Mr. Leon showed me a trick…instead of banging them on the floor, he hangs them upside down, wedges a screwdriver between the stretcher and the nose, then whacks the screwdriver shank.

That’s what I do or vice grips or channel locks
I still forget sometimes on coyotes and I bought a electric fence rod and use ti to loosen them and they’ll come right off
