Decided to catch some chubs and salt them down today. I figure I’ll use them on some fish stick sets for mink and coon.
When you set them fish sticks, make sure you stake them for otter as well! Great set for otter and coon! It will catch which ever one sees or smells it first.
I’ve honestly never used them. With fur prices the way they are I’ve decided to try different stuff this year.
Gotta find a way to get out and trap. I love learning more about how to trap different animals.
Do you think 3ft of 1/2” rebar would be enough?
It should be if it is drove in something solid. A drowner would be better but as long as you keep him in the water you should be fine. He wont have as much pulling power if he is in the water. Coons wont hardly fight it especially in cold water and they wont chew their feet. If I were to be targeting mink (which I am admittedly a terrible mink trapper) I would try to drown for sure. I was targeting coon and otter with mine so most of mine were in 6 to 8 inches of water and any investigating mink likely swam over my trap without even touching it. That set is murder on coon!
Before coyotes took constant control of my brain, I used this set a lot.
I think there is 27 coon, 4 beaver and a piebald otter here, mostly on fish sticks.
That’s for the tips. Looks like that fish stick set has been very successful for you.
