Most of the stores closing nationwide are in “blue run” areas. Our local DG stores have terrible shoplifting that cuts profits and raises the rest of our prices. I bet some places more is stolen than paid for. They asked me if I wanted a job there the other day and I said only if I stand at door and frisk shoplifters. They actually train their kids to steal here.
Must be part of there demographic cause they do that hear too.
I like how they put in them self checkouts and immediately stopped using them there just a catch all counter know.
The one I stop at on my way home from work the guy told me they was stealing them blind with the self checks so they cut them off.
They said even loosing 100 store is less than 1 percent!
There one about ever 20 miles an it’s even tighter in places.
Yes whoever decided to install those self check outs should be fired. They just walked out the door without paying.
They could significantly cut their theft if they just had someone at the register, in the ones around here you may have to wait 5 minutes for someone to come ring up your purchases before you can pay for them. While the model of having one person working who is the clerk, stocker, housekeeping, and maintenance staff cuts personnel costs it is a free ticket to thieves when there is no one watching the door.
There are 6 Dollar Generals and 2 Family Dollar/Dollar Tree stores in McCreary County they definitely have a saturation business model.
In my 39 mile commute to work, I pass 5 DG stores.
I drive 30 and pass 4
My Wife came up with a theory about why there are so many DG stores. She said it’s decided where to build a new one based on where you are at when the pop and bag of chips you bought at the last one has been eat up! …Snacks are gone, looks like we need another one right here! Makes sense to me.
I remember hearing 10 years ago they were trying to cut off trips to Walmart. They’re handy but the prices aren’t always good.
You have to watch them like a hawk on prices, as they will charge more than the advertised price on about everything! We take pictures of the price, and when they start that jacking up the price stuff at the register, we call them on it! usually they just hit a single button, and bingo; Correct Price rings up!
