Favorite Fleshing knife?

Do you have a favorite brand of fleshing knife? Is there a certain brand, style, length, etc. that you think is best? And why ? Is there one type that’s better , like one type for coons vs another type for beaver or coyotes, etc.? What are your thoughts and experiences with different ones! (Inquiring/ weak minds want to know!)

I used a 12 dollar junk knife for years it wouldn’t even get sharp I shaved with a green river buntcher knife.
I bought a Sheffield style knife it’s a cheaper made one called green English it gets good and sharp and handles well I like the wide blades on that style I feel like i have more control.
I use it on everything from rats to beaver and have no problems.
It’s 5 times better then the other I used for ever.

I pretty fond of my 16" sheffield. The sharp side holds an edge good. And does a good job of shaving beaver and otter tails and the dull side pushes fat really well. Ive been aiming to try the Steinmyer narrow knifes, a zepf, or post.

Anybody have any tips on sharpening a fleshing knife?

I have a post also and doesnt seem very sharp to me.

I have a Necker and a Weibi butI use the necker the most cause it’s a little longer making it better for pushing.

Maybe someone can give you a better suggestion
But I use a Butchers Steel
I’ll do one side at a time
Slowly because of the size

I get mine “right” about one out of four tries. When it’s razor sharp it’s a pleasure. I’m hoping I’ll learn to sharpen it after a year or two trying. I think the curl is what I’m having trouble with. I learned on the MTP knife. I still have it and haven’t tried any other.

Used a necker for years now use a post and love it.

I liked colts demo on sharpening and would like to see that again sometime at a meet. Maybe add in a fleshing knife.

I’m using steel on mine and I think I’ve finally got the curl right.

I used a necker 700 for years. Its the big necker made like a sheffield knife… It was a pretty good knife, I make all my own stuff these days . Though its really basically the same design but made from much, much better steel
