Favorite Rabbit Bait

What is your go to rabbit bait in live traps?

Caught a few on hedge balls but never really had much luck caging rabs

Apple. Give them a peeling right in the doorway to whet their appetite. If wire bottom cover the wire or nestle in the ground. They don’t like walking on wire.

Been so long since I have seen a rabbit around here that I think pixie dust, or unicorn crap would work as well as anything! When I used to catch one every once in a while years ago, apple slices, and anise oil on a cotton ball would get them sometimes. If I was going to try and live off of what ever I caught in a cage trap, I would have to develop a taste for possums I’m afraid! LOL!

LOL! Well if you ever do, I will be glad to give you tips!
My grandfather used to set figure 4 sticks under a wash tub, or a cross stick, pyramid type trap, and he would just slice up an apple, and bait with that. He caught a bunch that way! He always said that a rabbit would go " under something better" than it would go “in something,” and maybe that’s why he was so successful. He didn’t like box traps, but preferred the drop box, or wash tubs!

Mushmellon is my first choice

Put a little salt on that peeling.

Kyboy, Are you talking about the rabbits or yourself! lol

It’d be a lot of trouble to come up with but a rabbit trap built like the Comstock cage beaver traps would be a killer for rabbits. Open on both ends.

I think you may be right on that; the only cage trap I ever remember catching rabbits in was an old 2-A Hav-a -Hart trap with open doors on each end. I bet something like that, and a big cabbage leaf at this time of year would get em!

LOL, both. I started trapping rabbits to keep them from eating all my mushmellons
