Been fighting high water on the river. It finally dropped 10-12 inches per night leaving sets high and dry. After it stabilized i caught these 2 57pounders. Water was too shallow to drown so I staked the trap with 6 foot of chain.
The river I trap is all rock. I cant use an H stand cause it wont go into the rocky bottom. I do make drowning sets when I can. Most of the time there is no cover at the waters edge and the water level tends to change alot. Sometimes its easier to make a blind trail set on land leading to a castor mound or feeding area. Dale Billingsly out of Iowa uses footholds and 10 feet of chain staked to the bank. He claims alive beaver isn’t going to spook other beavers as a beaver floating in a conibear might.
