Ground Hog bait question?

There was a post a few months back about using chopped up ground hog fur bones and all that
Peaked my interest

My question is make it fresh or taint and if tainted for how long?
I’ve got a few ground hog calls coming up and thought I’d ask
Could really take this forward to tainting bait

I made a batch using beaver this past year I put under ground
For the summer it was not rotten but it was really really strong
Any conversation about ground hog and or tainting methods and how to taint appreciated

I don’t remember exactly how I did it but Mike Marsyada has a bait formula out there somewhere. I know I didn’t taint it. It was chopped up in pieces hair and all and I added castor and glycerine and stirred it in. It made a nice bait. I made it years ago and it caught stuff last year.

Been able to find it

I’ll try to dig it up. It’s in an old Trappers Post somewhere.

I’ve made it tainted, or fresh. I only taint it for a few days, before I put sodium benzoate in it to preserve. I put mine in a two gallon ziplock bag to taint it, the bag allows for expansion, easy mixing, and keeps the flies out. However, it doesn’t keep the pup out of it, he has been known to sneak a taste when I don’t put it out of his reach.
