We had are family gathering for my momma’s side tonight, we never really exchange gifts just eat and play games talk and have a good time…I ask my uncle to see his mark 3 target Ruger cause I been kicking around the idea of getting one to put a scope on and squirrel hunt with from time to time. Well he showed me then boxed it up and handed it to me.
Tells me Merry Christmas and happy birthday I don’t shoot it no more so take it.
I did protest but he said “you needed it and there ya go!” I’ve got a good uncle for a whole host of reasons other then that he just had his first grandson Saturday too. He is a fish nut I’ve seen him fish in a tank before!
2024 will go down as the year of the Ruger 22 for me.
Colt there is nothing like a gift from the Heart
I’m sure every time you use it you will think
Of him
I hope you get many years of use out of it
Sure is a fine pistol
Sweet! You will be knocking squacks out with that soon enough! I had an old original Ruger automatic back years ago, before it was stolen out of my house by thieves. It was very accurate, I carried it everywhere, with me , on the trapline, root digging, etc. and I killed several squirrels, rabbits, and I even head shot a quail once with it. You will like that once you break it in. And if it’s like mine was, you will have to shoot it quite a bit before it gets broke in, and starts shooting tight groups. The tolerances on the rifling was so close, it apparently slowed the bullet down so much it didn’t shoot good at first!
Must be a good man, and a wise one. That conversation and gift will live on every time you take it out. They are a nice pistol.
I have a similar story. A couple summers ago I asked my cousin in Ohio if he still had papaws old Remington Targetmaster 22. He did. It had been in a closet up there for 40 years.
I asked if there was any way I could buy it. I had many memories packing it as a kid.
He said “ No, but I’ll give it to you”. I got it and a couple months later he took a Covid shot and died.
I treasure that rifle for the memories and the gifting back of it.
A vert nice gift Colt.
Awesome gift , but it really more than a gift . It’s something he liked a lot , and gave it to someone he loved more !
That’s the gun I pack on the trap line. You’ll love it.
Colt i have the exact same gun. it was my dads. all i have is one clip though.
id actually forgot i had it. looked in my safe and found it.
remember when i was a kid i loved shooting that gun.
think im going get mine out and shoot it
Colt, congratulations those gifts mean a lot for sure. Also, you might want to try a compact red dot instead of a scope. I have a scope on my ruger MK II target and a red dot on a S&W victory and the red dot is a whole lot easier for me to use effectively. You can be more precise with the scope but it is a lot slower to find and acquire the target with the red dot.
Yeah I was thanking maybe a reds dot too I’ve never really used one.
I have a Ruger single six I bought when I got outta highschool that shoots really well I made some good shots with it when I was packing it all the time. I’d like to see what an optic or red dot would do on one that why I wanted a Ruger auto i know there easier to get one on.
May hunt it open sights awhile. It got a good trigger for a pistol.
Colt
I have a Ruger pistol with a scope i set up just to squirrel hunt with Colt…it is fun! I will warn you though, you dont realize just how much you shake till you start trying to aim a pistol with a scope! Squirrels never stop moving in place where you have a good rest either.
True statement there!
