Went out a ridge this morning
Saw a coyote head bouncing all I could see
That lifted my spirits I was going
Yes been a couple days
There was a dip in the ridge and I came up
Looked at the set and found this
Went out a ridge this morning
Saw a coyote head bouncing all I could see
That lifted my spirits I was going
Yes been a couple days
There was a dip in the ridge and I came up
Looked at the set and found this
I really didn’t get upset
I just said to myself well
Mr Coyote you won this one
I put a couple extra sets in down in a thicket
I’m thinking back foot catch
Cause of that digging ya see
Maybe I’m wrong
It happens,I went to four coils on coyote for that reason.
I know there not always necessary but I hate loosening stuff thinking I could have done better. If it’s just luck of the draw fine it really doesn’t bother me, but if I thank it’s me being stupid or lazy it drives me insane!
So I go over kill, that’s one thang the big boys pound home don’t use junk and dont get lazy on changing springs modifying and so on, it definitely pays to go the extra mile!
Not saying you did enythang wrong I’m just saying, for example I’ve got 2 dozen 1.5 bridger specials when I bought them I used them for fox dry coon rats mink you know the usual. Soon as they got a little used i started loosening coons so I stopped useing them on coon still held fox and the other stuff fine that when they first came out I bought them by the way.
So I ain’t used them for coon in 10 years so I put music wire on um and laminated this year thought it might help. Well it helped alright helped coon walk right out!
I lost 6 coon first two checks so I pulled replaced and threw them in a pile I’m fixin to put weak springs back on um and use them for mink and rats only in high traffic areas! I’m DONE with um,
It was similar deal when I went to 4 coils for yotes I’m not going back eaither! Lesson learned
Colt
I had one really cutting a shine this morning. He was a big old male and could see me coming from a long ways off. He knew the deal.
I’ve got some snares up on a fence line couple hills over
Be interesting to see if I snag em
4 coil definitely would help In this freezing weather
.my hands either freeze. Or hurt
From arthritis so I’ll just ride it out
Anything over 32 I’m happy
You know I toed a big tom cat one year in a blind set around the first of December in a Victor 3 round jaw coil.
You know that Tom quit using the trail I toed him on I kept the set there but he didn’t come back.
I started picking up a track on the next hill in late January so I set up in a couple of tight spots the cat was passing through. I had 3 blind sets out on that hill. About the end of February he came through one night after a light snow a sleet and a hard freeze he stepped dead center of the first 2 blind sets they was froze in and then the 3rd went off. I had him it was almost 2 months later and there was his two missing toes. I sold all them vic 3s after that. There a decent trap but I don’t like that there too wide and the wide roundness makes them real low on the side that’s how I had him caught to the side in the lever and that’s why I lost him.
He was a real satisfying animal to catch.
Colt
Happens to the best of us thumb. Lol
It’s happened to me twice. Both times as I pulled up on the four wheeler and was swinging my leg over the gas tank to take care of business and puff!! It’s gone! Lol. Last time was a mb550 on a back leg.
Sure deflated an excitement rush
Had one roll on a set the other day haven’t had that in years
Think it was from a water plugged bait hole
Appreciate all the replies
Colt I really like your experiences and telling about them
