Last few seasons. I’m thinking of finding a smaller and easier to put up animal to key on this season. Still like water trapping. Maybe mink and rats and not go hard core, for me. Have to try to catch a cat or two also. I have a few beaver requests already but I think I’ll lay off looking for them this season. Beaver prices seem to be settling down big time too. I’d say several will lay off them after hitting them hard. Beaver trapping, over twenty or so, starts getting into work. Anyone else making June plans?
I’m thinking mink, otter, Bobcat as main targets. However, I just checked, and found a video of a guy doing price conversions of 1922 vs 2022 fur prices. Skunks were bringing $4.50 in 1922 for top lot type pelts, and in 2022 they would be worth about what they sold for at Fur Harvesters recently. A 16: 1 conversion! …when comparing dollar values from back then to now, I guess Skunk will be at the top of the hit list now! …LOL!
I will run a coon mink otter rat (fish sticks)line in November pretty big and extensive (100) fish sticks, then I’ll beat and bum around for otter and mink till mid to late January and start on beaver and run mostly for them and otter till the end of February and then I have plans for March if we get it.
I will have a few mink sets out all season I suspect.

I’m actually wanting to build some new rabbit boxes and catch some rabbits. I like turning an apple into rabbit scraps into a cat.
Figure I’ll do what I normally do and run a mixed bag line but if we don’t get a lot of rain like last year will concentrate more on water trapping dry land will be mainly cats and skunk
Mink are a furbearer ive never actually targeted. But with the amount of sign I seen the last couple years, i plan to go after them some this season. Cats will also be on top the list. Everything else Ill take as they come. Beaver will be mostly by request. Just had carple tunnel surgery on my right hand and doing my left hand next. So im not sure how well I’ll be able to handle beaver. Hopefully im 100% by November.
I’ll be trapping whatever is available and dumb enough to get caught. Probably be trapping worthless coyotes simply because after so many years, I have landowners that expect it and it has opened the door to many other critters and opportunities. Plus, it’s fun
I’ve been thinking on a little harder on some cats and helping out some farmers around here that I haven’t had time to get to. Those 45and 50lb beaver sure is a lot of work. Plus I’d like to fi ne a few fox this year.
I figure I’m in my twilight years of trapping. Going to gear more towards fun, experimenting and testing home made concoctions. Mink at FHA were disappointing yesterday, ten dollars and change. I love catching them but going hard for them takes a lot of money that 10.00 mink won’t cover. Still have fun and set locally but big mink line is out of question for me. I’ve been releasing fox but no more than I catch I might skin a few next year. Haven’t handled any in a few seasons. Had a landowner that had coyotes knock over his bee gums last winter. I feel like I owe him an attempt. Told Stacey the price of skunks and she almost thought she’d let me handle them if I catch any. I’ve seen some beautifully handled polecats at our sale.
Fun to make little plans over the summer.
Tell her that you can either work them up and keep them in the shed, or store them in her freezer; whichever way she chooses! LOL!
The wind has been taken out of my dreams
A landowner who I’ve relied on the past ten yrs or so was tragically killed in a accident at the age of
58
last winter he met me at one of his Farms and we talked for maybe a 1/2 hour he was dreaming of retirement and his passion was bowhunting Big Bucks wouldn’t dare use a gun and Fishing with his Sons was another he talked about
He treated me really well and I’ll miss him
3 of my best Farms in 2 Counties
So I’m gonna prepare as I always do
And catch what ever steps on the pan
I’d Love to get a few Bob Cats just seems I manage 1 or 2 a year and that’s it
We don’t have a lot of em but there starting to spread
I know it takes a lot of ground to cover to catch mink but I need to make an effort this year
Seems I haven’t used a 1 1/2 in a long time
Pocket Sets and such in a creek since Dog Proofs
Just get out of the habit
Thubcatcher, I’m really sorry to hear about that ; for him, and his Family! We are not assured of another minute in this World, and it can all change at any time! Maybe his Family will still let you hit your old spots if they keep the land. I hope so!
I appreciate the kind words
Time will tell there good people so will see
Just no real communication with the kids
Gonna wait a spell and check in with them
Yes, sorry to hear that thumb. I lost an adjacent landowner years ago in an accident.
