Anyone else ever take a dose of this? My mamaw’s cure all was a half teaspoon of this dissolved in a little water with a heaping teaspoon of sugar. I’ve swallowed many a dose.
I’ve heard about it,sounds like I was fortunate enough to have missed out.
I’m glad I’ve missed out
I tried to buy it a few years back and my pharmacist had a caniption fit. He said you can’t take it nternally, it’d aspirate your lungs. It used to say internal liniment on the bottle but I can’t find it anymore. It was Watkins brand.
Shew!!!..I don’t remember taking that specifically, but man, …When I was little, Mom used to pour caster oil down me, and hot onion and Vick’s salve slathered on my chest at the first sign of a cough or runny nose! …Black salve for most anything that didn’t get the Vick’s treatment, and Burn like fire Mecuricomb on cuts!!! ( Seems like there was a skull and cross bones on that bottle !),and one time, I remember her trying to shove a raw egg in my mouth because I ate something she though might somehow make me sick! That little stunt had us both backed up in an opposing corner sweating hard , and breathing hard, while staring at each other, looking for an opportunity to make our next move! LOL!
I just asked the company if they still made it. An eight ounce bottle lasts years.
Based on what they told you at the drug store, A 1/2 t-spoon at a time dose would be the most I would want to try, for sure!
As I got older I’d do a whole teaspoon and two spoons of sugar. It’d make your nose start running.
I’ve had a few of those old remedies used on me. Vicks salve, Black salve Methiolate and a lot of Tupertine was a main go from cuts rusty nails and even poured it on my boots to keep snakes away when in the woods.
I guess it was Raleigh instead of Watkins.
That actually makes since cayenne pepper is great for your stomach and helps with inflammation I take it all the time so does Dad.
Hemlock oil has something too but I can’t remember
I believe they no longer make it.
