Relistened to an interview that clint locklear did with leon smith. Really enjoy listening to his stories. Im really interested in what he was explaining about otter trapping on the river. How where a creek enters a river he digs a trench on the point and sets that. Can anyone elaborate, or help me understand better. I think i understand on setting larger creek mouths that come in straight, by brushing and blocking in the bank sides and making a chute to set.

The trench is dug so they use it as a short cut over the point to the other side
Otter do that allot enyhow he’s just creating a nice trail for them to follow.

Colt pretty well nailed it.
So cut a trail just wide and deep enough to hold a 330 trap?
If it’s in the water or you can use a 220 high and dry. It’ll most likely be a groove three or four feet above low average water.

So the trench doesnt have to be water to water? Just a few feet up the point of a creek and dig him a road.
Yes, similar to what you’d see naturally if otters were just short cutting.
