I’ve been with the Grandkids all last week, and brought a couple back home to spend some time around here for a few more days.
Let them play in the creek today and try to catch crawdads, skip rocks, and just be kids for a while. They don’t get to do much of that where they live; so it made me feel better about their upbringing and education . I even got to show them an otter toilet, and showed them the little fish scales, and how they like certain areas. Some of it was so fresh that it still had juice running down the rocks, and you could smell it 10 feet away! …Good stuff for kids to learn about in Grampas eyes!
That’s good. I took my two a few weeks ago and did the same. They loved it and brought many rocks home. We went to the river but a dead horse hung on the shoal sent us to a small creek.
We’ve always done that but we’ve done allot of it this year. Rivers been higher than normal and the early heat pushed us to o do in more I believe!
Colt
I cut my foot open more than once wading creeks as a kid. Old pop bottles all in it and I didn’t think of or have wading shoes. There were minnows and fish in every hole. Now most creeks around me are dead looking. Chubs and horny heads were up under the dark bridges. Now, the pools are empty for the most part.
Wrecking I’m still a big kid me and a good friend went last night he fished I hunted. Chloe was headed to the mountains so she didn’t go.
Colt
Are you eating those Colt?
Not all of them no.
When you are probing and hooking for them up under the banks, do you typically have the point of the hook up, or down, or sideways, or every which way as you work the roots and holes ? I’m guessing you are trying to hook the edge of the shells, or the soft parts where the legs and head stick out of the shells and then pull them out with the hook, or by hand once you get them found and started with the hook. I know a turtle shell feels different than anything else in the water; and the shell probably has a different feel or sound when you bump it too I bet.
Wading a creek with a nice ultralight setup and a small box of lures, it makes for a fine day, it is one of life’s great pleasures.
