It’s no wonder people home and private school

Little grand daughters are five and in kindergarten and already have “ homework” every night. It’s no wonder we’re falling behind the rest of the world academically. The way I’m seeing math and beginner reading taught is terrible. I believe the local schools have been “ governed down” by state and federal funding and have little say in the curriculum. It appears they’re being taught to test instead of learn. The way we learned is nowhere near the way it’s being taught now. It’s like The Bible. Nothing has changed, just the way it’s taught and interpreted is. Morning rant over.

I agree. The school system is a joke. Adalynn had 4 teachers in 6 months as a kindergartner. It set her back learning, last year in first grade she was supposed to have some type of teacher to pull her out 1 on 1 because the other students were bad and she can’t focus like that. It didn’t happen. Her teacher quit at the end of the school year and we saw her at Vacation Bible School over the summer. We asked about that and she told us that the woman that was supposed to be adalynn’s one on one teacher kept getting called out to sub and her teacher threw a fit over it and they told her that Adalynn wasn’t a priority to them because she’s a good kid and the low income, poor behaved kids there are the money makers for them. And it’s funny you say that, because those are the two subjects that she struggles in.

You are exactly right. Instead of bringing kids up they are more intent to me of bringing an exceptional one down to the others. Unless I’ve seen special attention to teachers kids and aides children in the “ gifted and talented” programs. I’m also aggravated at the way they’ve handled this I 75 shooter situation. My girls were home all week but didn’t understand why. First day back to school they come home scared the “ bad man” is coming to their school. Fear is control, Covid taught the schools that and is also why a lot of the teachers still would like to stay home. I’m also starting to see kids being categorized into “special” groups that are eligible for special funding. I’m afraid the kids are not the main driver like they used to be in education.

The school system definitely isn’t what it was when I went through it. I thought maybe it was due to it being a different county but it seems to be across the board. It worries me to death at what they’re gonna be pushing on them by middle school and high school

Yes if I was raised children today, I would try to home school and teach them the truth, I pray for our young people and their children!

In jessamine county are education has always been a joke. We get teachers from Lexington (and not from Lexington usually another state)and have since I’ve was going and they look down on kids from poor or rural backgrounds and you are made to feel inferior.
Fast forward to today the math in elementary is a joke , Chloe was taught math so backwards she couldn’t understand it. Then if I showed her at home she got it no problem but a t school she had to be in a special math group. Struggled with math for 5 years. This year so far they have went back to what they taught us and how they taught us and she’s got As and Bs, she even knows her multiplication tables witch I never learn, she’s never had a math problem she had a teacher problem and I told them that to no avail.
I will say the one good thang about jessamine county is that all this woke crap, are school board side steps the best they can. We are a deep red county but I’m afraid with all the new moving in we are gonna start to lighten up. But so far were still doin good.
