What are some lure/bait making books you have read?
Wyshinski’s old book and Kaatz Encyclopedia of Lure Making.
Which one of wyshinski have you read?
The old one, one of his firsts. It’s called compounding lures and baits I think. It has some very old basic stuff in it. I’d say Carman’s Musk Mystery and…….would be interesting. I’ve seen Kaatz and Locklear lure making DVD’s as well.
I honestly think there’s more and better info on the chat forums if you can find it
Did you get a lot out of there videos? I too think carmans would be interesting
The videos were pretty basic making a few baits and lures. The REAL secrets will not be told by most. Carman, Jameson, OGorman, Caven will all hold their knowledge. In my limited experience the amounts of ingredients and aging methods are the tricks. I can’t get consistent bobcat gland every year. I get the castor pretty close.
Most of my stuff is more of a slow down smell instead of intense intrigue the big boys get. It’s fun though.
For me it’s just something to play with. I’ve dabbled in it for years just looking to collect small ideas from something different. I figured one might do a certain product differently than the other and so on. I really don’t see how the big guys actually make a whole lot in the end but I may be wrong. I kinda think some makes up for others
You are right on that. Others have always made lure by following the recipe for the owner. Paul Grimshaw used to sell lure by the gallon in his catalog so others could just bottle and label it with any brand they liked, for small shows and shops. Mike Marsyada made lure for others. Jack Hill formulates now for Grawes Lures.
I’ve read both of wsynskis books and Carmen’s, I’ve seen Thorpe’s lure make video and he makes allot of since.
I believe wsynskis made lure for allot of different labels.
