The book Water Trapping at its Best came out about 1979. I couldn’t afford it then but have a copy now. I was in the authors stomping grounds of Langston, Al. Yesterday and wondered how many of those creeks I crossed were in the book. It’s a very water rich area with large lakes on the Tennessee River flowing through it. His catches were amazing. Kind of neat seeing his area. Our member Chuck Rainwater lives near there and showed me around.
I always thought that if I couldn’t live here in Kentucky, I could happily live out the rest of my days in Northern Alabama, or Southern Tennessee ! It would be a lot easier climate to operate in if you like to garden, fish n hunt, or trap in I think!
It is a beautiful area with tons of fishing opportunity, and trapping.
You have me turning my head, and looking towards the South/ South West now! … Years of Bi-Polar weather, that can’t decide if it want’s to rain, hail, turn 95 degrees with 80 % humidity for 3 hours, then rain again, snow sideways in April for 2 days, then rain again for 3 weeks, along with straight up and down Lake access hills, With a Lake that is either flooded 50’ above Summer pool, or 50’ below Summer Pool, along with having to dodge the Ohio Navy for 5 months out of the year, and watching as the locals slowly go down the tubes on a Social/Financial basis, and stand by helpless as Drugs take over so many lives! Then you have the People from Blue States that move in and buy up every inch of the big Farms, and nicer homes in the area , and start developing everything into Camper Parks, or Subdivisions!
And seeing these things, you know it’s never going to be the same, and that has slowly sucked the appeal out of living here!
I saw some of the same down there just maybe not as much of it. Fewer people down there overall.
