Have a couple dozen mink rigs I’m trying this year. Already had a #11 longspring on six to eight feet of chain and a drag. I added a #1 coil on the chain and plan on setting double traps some. I’ve wanted to try it and I better get to doing things instead of just thinking. I added a different type trap because I want to know which trap position caught the mink. I have some five pound window weights and railroad tie plates I can add to the chain too and just lay the rig in the water.
I have #2 coils on long and extra long chains with quick links.
I just link two together when I go that rout. or tie them singley and set them together.
I’m a heavy setter anymore on mink.
#2 coils are my favorite mink trap. For some reason I want to go back and use some #1’s this year like I did 50 years ago.
Really appreciate this post
I’ve caught mink before but every year I see sign and just don’t set for them
That’s gonna change this year
If I only catch one as a goal I’ll be happy
More is better but time to make changes
And this post gives me ideas especially in rocky creek areas
You going strictly blind sets or all the above
I’m about a 95% blind mink trapper. I’ll sometimes use a hidden bait in a trash pile or root wad or add a little good mink lure in a tunnel. I bought a jar of OGormans Old Bucks Death in a deal and I want to try it out. I’m hoping to set light and tight and avoid coons.
