I have been picking up Victor and Blake and Lamb #3 and #4 Double long springs whenever I find a good deal on them to use for coyote, bobcat and beaver as I prefer the simplicity of them and I like how long springs don’t “freeze down” compared to coil springs. I’ve seen a lot about the PIT pans and was just wondering if any of y’all use them on the old long springs and if you noticed an advantage over the stock pans.
They are very nice on them old traps. As far as advantage you get your pan tension easy and the side wable is eliminated. But to be honest I think allot of that is a mental thing enymore. I’m sure there is some advantage from the old way but I equally as sure that it’s not make or break. In my opinion either one is fine paws I trip or adjust level file square and set full notch I know they both work.
Colt
I appreciate it colt, I’ve used the #1, #1 1/2, and #2 long springs for coon and mink since I’ve started and never had an issue with stock pans, but I’m not much of a coyote trapper, and have never tried for bobcat or beaver intentionally and wanted to dip in to a little of it all this season with the kids. I think I’ll just leave them stock, they’ve worked this long!.
There are ways to take a little side slop out of the pans and do a Miles trigger that makes them better but the PIT pans are great on them if your going to use for coyote, cats and beaver. I have all mine set to 3.5 lbs pan tension and they’re easier to use my hand to brush in and cover.
