Was deer hunting this morning and was admiring a rub I had found, something caught my eye about 4 feet on the other side of it and after looking, it wound up being a rattle snake about the size of a garter snake. I’ve covered a lot of miles in the mountains of eastern KY the past several years turkey hunting and this is the first I’ve ever ran upon on. What blows my mind is that it was over in bath county right outside of Sharpsburg. I’ve ran that area my whole life and never imagined one to be out there.
Bares watchin anymore about anywhere. I was just outside of Means yesterday looking under a bridge I make sure I watch where I’m going cause them rough places is prime for rattle snakes and copperheads both and it rough under about every bridge. You never know where ones gonna be. And it only takes one in the right place!

I do a lot of hunting out in the country you’re talking about and typically put in about 8 or 10 miles a day in the mountains around there during turkey season typically at least 8 or more days a season for the past several years and somehow been fortunate enough to not run up on one.
Well I do too and have since I was a boy never found one in the woods “well one copper head” but have seen them on the roads, I thank mostly they feel/ hear us coming and try to get outta the way or hide before we get there. This cool weather and them slowing down I believe is the most dangerous time. I know a boy who catches them all over that country. My long time trapping partner did to for awhile.

Yes sir, it was trying to get back to a hole a few feet away which I assume was a den. I know one thing, the buck that made that run I found is safe, cause I ain’t gonna be hunting that thicket
