When we asked for and got it the purpose is that for a trap thief to have to go through a CO if there were an issue instead of just reading the name and address of who to look out for. CO’s are not supposed to give out the owner ID to just anyone that calls. Eventually, this go between idea will iron out who’s in the wrong about trapping or trespassing without permission. In most cases it’s the later.
I put my name and address on mine along with my number. I have nothing to hide and won’t be trespassing so if somebody steals my trap, at least they know who they stole from (which has happened). I did find a guy’s traps that was where he shouldn’t be and his tag just had his trappers number. I won’t go into the story but he would have been better off with his name on there.
Had a friend whom soldered his trap tag to the bottom of the base plates on traps. they will lay flat and will not come off.
