Do any of y’all know if it would meet the legalities to stamp or engrave your trapper ID and the 180025Alert in to the top of the jaws or maybe the base of your traps rather than use a tag?. In my mind, it would help with the identification of stolen traps if you have an idea of who could have it and also fix the critter getting your tag off making your trap illegal.
That would be a great idea i would like to know that myself
The reg. says metal tag but I do lick the idal of engraving. That would surprize theft.
i personally would follow the regulations. If the regulations specify “TAG” with information on it, then I would do that , then am good. No problems. The other markings or engraving on your trap is for your own personal trap identification which helps identify your property if stolen. I have my own faint mark on my traps that are very hard to find. Heck, if your worried about your tag getting pulled off just do the both engraving and tag. Now you know your legal.
You’ll be ok as long as he’s the one that checks you and doesn’t change areas in the future. If you decide to go a few counties away that CO may not give you the same answer. We ran into opinion differences on laws a few years ago on the snare closing devices. What are you going to do on snares?
Is Rufus still over there. He’s a real good guy I showed him how to trap coyotes!
Colt
Steve, I completely understand what you’re saying. I was pondering on it as a “one and done” deal where you don’t have to worry about wether you’re legal or not. As far as snares, they would still be tagged due to it not being a concern with them getting chewed off or coming off. Colt, I’m not sure on that, I’ve only been in clark county about a year now. Lived in Montgomery county for 5 years, but I lived in Nicholas county for the first just a couple months shy of the first 22 years of my life so I went with asking Loren, he’s been a game warden down there since I can remember.
Well, I’m a little concerned… the rules state “All traps must bear a metal tag giving EITHER the name and address of the trapper, OR a unique identification number issued by the department as well as the 1-800-25-ALERT phone number.“. The way I interpreted that years ago was that I could go with my name and address, or my trappers ID and the 1-800-25-ALERT. For years I have been ordering tags with my name, address and my trappers #. I have never had the 1-800-25- ALERT no. On my tags….am I a law-breaking no-good-for-nothing outlaw? I never really thought about it until reading this discussion.
I use metal tags with my assigned identification number along with alert number
I looked at getting some tags the other day and they’ve gone way up like everything else.
Weez, no, you can use your trapper number and the phone number or your name, phone number etc. And yes, they have went way up
That tag place in Ohio is reasonable. I’ve been folding and pop riveting mine on like Gerald Smyth and it cuts way down on chewed up torn up tags.
Colt
Colt, I haven’t heard of that place in Ohio, or the pop riveting, do you mind to fill me in on both of them?
Larry Fitch trap tags
Use to be in ffg all the time.
There higher then the use to be but 25 per 100 3 lines 2 holes shipped
There good tags I just take the 2 hole tags and fold them over the chain and pop rivet through the holes. Corona can’t do allot with um and besides yotes and female cats, they tare up the most tags!
Colt
I wrap my tags around one side of the swivel folding them tight and I haven’t lost a tag since I started doing it that way. I don’t remember who gave me the idea or I would give them credit for it. On snares I wrap them on the swivel or around the cable.
I do the same tim
I’ve never lost a tag net but have had to replace a few chewed up ones.
I bolt them to frame of trap because of trap thief and chewing
Having that assigned number
Has it ever helped anyone recover a trap or catch a thief
What’s your thoughts
I’ve been on the fence about using it
