I’m going to be a complainer and serve a heads up to other trappers. Sometimes those Wolf fangs don’t turn sideways and set in rock hard strip pit ground. They seem to set but can be pulled straight back up out of the hole. Some are scary easy. I’m going back to double crossed steel stakes. Farmland guys……I’m glad for you.
I’m using more and more drags and Airedale.
I only use them on the river and have not had any trouble in sand and clay. bullets if I use that type of stake.
In the area I trap it either goes or it’s NOT going we have some shale we have clay and we have solid lime stone. Deep top soil in my area in 6"
I’m a fan of cross stakes rebar ALL disposables stink when your trying to pull them outta clay. 16 to 18" rebar cross staked is allot easier to pull outta clay and hold just fine.
If I’m walking in it’s cable or chain extensions for me.

I have most everything rigged for super stakes but find myself used double rebar for the sake of pulling.
Been using Wolf Fangs for 4 years.Only had that happpen twiice. Both times was on snares
have always had this problem with them you need to pull up and make sure they are set before leaving set have had to track down
Never had any issues and have been using them for a very long time…Different ground down here I guess. I wouldn’t use any other kind.
Those are what I’ve used ever since 2009 or so, the only issue I’ve ever had is not being able to get the things out of the ground and having to cut the cable. I do think I’m going to give chained super stakes a go next year for hopefully ease of pulling.
The chained super stakes pull just as hard as anything else.
I was planning on welding a nut on the back of them with cable attached to it so when I pulled the cable the super stake would turn the way it was driven and come out easily.
I would probably just get the finned ones. Those are a cast type material and that may lead to problems welding on those
I will say that those S-hooks are junk in connecting the chain to the stake end. Get some 9/16 or 5/8 grade 8 lock washed and weld those for your connection.
I use mighty hooks (s hooks) and weld the end down
The mighty ones are the ones I’m referring too. If your using #3 chain, that will be your week link. There just to soft
Those 5/8 lock washers work good for me. I can tack them together without burning them in two. I always set them and they’ll feel solid.mi guess pulling straight up or in different directions they fail sometimes. Most of my ground an 18 inch single stake would hold a yote. But if I doubted it I’d cross stake. I think I’ll go back to rebar next year.
I think the soil is probably different for most all of us. That’s really what creates the problems
I’ve not had trouble with the s hooks when I weld them .
And I’ve pulled some out of some really tough stuff.

I’m using super stakes cause those wolf fangs bend bad on these strips jobs where the super stakes will just bust thru some rock. I’m using more drags nowadays though
That’s the trouble.i.had with wolf fangs around hear I can’t get them through the rock like the supper stakes. And I don’t need no wear near as much holding power in this tight ground enyhow.

Have any of you guys in that hard rocky ground tried those expandable anchors they use in concrete , the ones like Leon did a demo on?
