I believe I saw something the other day about how you had to buy an elk tag/ license now that you have been drawn to hunt by mid June , or forfeit your hunt. Just a little heads up! Good luck to you!

I can’t complain, I got disgusted a few years ago and just quit putting in, I would put in for all four drawings and never drew a tag in all the years I put in but I know some people have been drawn more than once.

That just tells me it’s legitimate now by the way it’s electronically drawn. Every year a first timer has as good a chance as a twenty timer on the initial draw. I’ve not had any luck since they first hit the ground but my wife got drawn for a late season cow tag once.

Whatever you use, be it cross bow. or bow, I highly recommend a heavy shaft, and a fixed blade head with blades at least .027 thick, BARE MINIMUM! Thicker blades are even better, and something like the old style 2 edged Zwicky, fixed blades are better still! An elk has thick hair and hide, and their bones are 2-3 times as thick as a deer’s bones are! A guy needs the heavy equipment in order to get good penetration on those big dudes! Good luck to you!

There’s nothing like standing at the head of a big drainage, and caling down into it, and then having a squealing response come back at you from down in there! LOL! Makes your hair stand up on your arms!
