What is the biggest coyote y’all have caught?

I got a weekend off after working the last 25 days straight and laid out a couple coyote to skin that I had put in the freezer and caught up on our catches from today and yesterday. Anyway, one of them was a coyote we caught about 3 weeks ago and while I was looking at it laid on next to the other one when I was done, I couldn’t believe the size difference. I weighed the skinned out carcass and it was 33 pounds on the dot, so I weighed the hide and it was 6 pounds 1 ounce. All together 39 pounds 1 ounce on my digital scale. The hide from nose to tip of the tail measures 5’7”. It’s 30” across the bottom right above the tail. And that’s not on a stretcher. I’m new to intentionally targeting coyotes but this rascal looks like a wolf compared to the rest we’ve caught.

I had 1 count 1 legitimate on the scales 50 pounder once. He I’m not a tall man but I had to get on a tail gate to get his head and neck off the ground. Even holding him below the hocks I couldn’t get his head off the ground.
But you’ve got a big dog there enythang close to or over 40 is big especially for a wild dog.

I could not imagine a 45 pounder. This thing about whipped me trying to separate his hide. I’d imagine yours was a rougher job than this one.

I bet he was he was a monster. Did you have to custom fabricate a stretcher for that one colt?.

No he was at the very end of it though.
He was healthy had a good amount of belly fat.
I’m sure run down he woulda be in the 45 round range.

That’s a big coyote! I don’t weigh many but when I do, thinking I have a really big one, they usually don’t come close to 40.

I consider myself a poor coyote trapper. I’m too impatient, not observant enough and still can’t completely shake that fox mentality.

When I trapped before, coyotes was an animal you read about out west ! I’ve only caught one this year so far! Sign everywhere! I use dirt hole set mostly. Fox urine , meat bait, sardines sometimes and coyote gland lure. But not doing very good

I’m by no means a coyote trapper. I’m trying to learn though. This was my first year targeting them intentionally and I can tell you for certain, it’s addicting and will you drive you crazy!. I’m planning on hitting them hard next year and going to let the kids run their own coon line with me being the means of transportation.

The only thing I do is pull up to a spot, close my eyes, and open them again. Whatever catches my attention first is where I set my trap. If it’s what I think is a good place, like the edge of a cut soybean field that buts up to a fence line or something similar, I’ll mound up bean chaff and make something to catch the eye. But in my experience setting a ton of traps on 180 something acres, a couple of your spots will catch 90% of them.
